Advantages of Using Microsoft
Powerpoint
for Displaying Internet Images
There are several ways that teachers can enhance their lessons and more efficiently create, store, adapt and share their lessons with others using Microsoft Powerpoint. Some of them are listed below. This document was created by Julie Coiro, March 2000
- The sequence of the show and the overall objectives are paired with your own curriculum (because you designed it) and the sequence of the slides follows your own agenda for covering topics.
- Teachers have more control over what images students see and the order in which they are presented,
- There is no wait time to load the images on the screen and you do not even have to be connected to the Internet to view the images in PowerPoint.
- You can store and access all of your images from one location by simply clicking the mouse. There's no paperwork shuffle, reading notes from stickies, finding a lost picture or not being able to access a busy Internet site.
- It is very easy to share your slide shows with others (send via email, save on a disk, publish on the Internet)
- It is very easy to adapt a slide show and modify it to meet your particular classroom needs (ie. change the order of slides, add / delete text, resize images, etc.)
- Your audience is not distracted by animated advertisments and extraneous information on your slide (as on an Internet webpage) and there are no incorrect places to click on and get lost!
- You can create your own text boxes with text adapted to your viewers' reading levels. You could even provide two different reading levels on the same page!
- You can use drawing tools to highlight certain parts of images and help focus your students' attention on just that portion of the image.
- Images and text can be displayed with no other computer toolbars showing (in slide show view); no distractions
- You can customize your slide shows with special animation effects, interesting transitions, and sound effects that may just wake up your students up a bit.
- You can easily post your slide shows on a school web site so your colleagues can display them in their classroom.
